3/15/2013 - Banjo Boys, Chapter 14-1/2

Big News!!!  You may recall that a couple of weeks back, Monty had finished shaping his tension ring and cut the ends on a bevel in preparation for silver soldering.  At that time, the plan was to have our friend Dan Shady do the silver soldering on all three hoops when we got them ready.

Well, Monty is a true pioneer.  He has welded in the past and decided to try his hand at silver soldering.  He acquired some of the special solder and flux needed for this high-temperature process.  After practicing a few times on some scrap brass, he gave it a shot on his tension ring.  Here's the evidence, from newly-soldered joint to polished joint, and perfectly shaped sitting on his rim.  Congratulations, Monty, on a really great job!  You have inspired the other Banjo Boys.
